Also just seen it for the first time. Pen all day long.

Dont turn your back (really pisses me off when defenders do that anyway) and yes his arm was away from his body, does not have to be stuck out a long way, just enough to make the natural body shape (which includes arms by the way) bigger. Why do defenders these days try and block shots with their arms behind their back? For this very reason that is why.

Pen all day long.

The arm wasn't in an unnatural position at all, hence why many think it wasn't a pen. An unnatural position is either completely stretched in the star fish position or above the head, his arm was neither.

It's only United. Fuck them.

He's jumped up, turned his back on it arm out from his body and the balls hit his arm

Is a bit harsh but arm in unnatural position and he's stopped the ball

Penalty all day long.
He's looking at the ball to the point the shot goes. Then the head is turned and he leaves the arm out that was a deliberate action - Dont forget all players are cheats.

My only comment about the referee is that the player has to go as its a denial of a goal scoring opportunity by handball which is a sending off offence. He's given the penalty, therefore deemed it deliberate...

The penalty call was 100% bang on

Let's be fair about it, he hardly did a start jump did he

He was just up in the air and his arms were not out, out, just positioned where they would be to achieve that height and without intent to flag down a passing jump jet

This bollox will be the end of the game as we know it

It's almost impossible to prove intent. Even e.g. Chicharito's handball vs Fulham.

That's why referees are given guidance. As I understand this states that a player making himself bigger and blocking the ball with his arm should be deemed handball.

Pretty hard to argue that this shouldn't apply to the incident last night.

Re: PSG v Man Utd
Just saw the incident. Bloody harsh one to give, especially in injury time of such a game when the result is on the line, and with VAR help. I’d be furious if I was a PSG fan.

Any chance it was realised that Man U are more of a money spinner and this is a good story going forward?....

No, this is exactly what I said, I copied it from your post where you pasted exactly what I’d said.

Re: PSG v Man Utd
That is EXACTLY what you said, you fucking helmet. Of course it wouldn't be a pen if he kept his arms in, but that isn't the question here is it, the question here is should it still be a pen just because he jumped and put his arms out? Apart from the fact that you can't prove intent you can't jump without putting your arms out.

Hermit Road 9:57 Thu Mar 7
Re: PSG v Man Utd
“So because he jumped and turned his back to the ball that makes it a pen 'coz it hit his arm”

That’s not what I said. It’s because his arms made a bigger target by him throwing them out wide. If he keeps them by his side and the ball hits them then it’s no penalty.

angryprumphs 9:53 Thu Mar 7
Re: PSG v Man Utd
Random solution but it could work, make it that anything that hits the hand ONLY is a penalty. So much smaller target but no would mean no arguments. Yes it would mean player could use the forearm to control the ball but that might not actually be a bad thing.

50/50 penalty decision.

When it goes against you, you're hard done by.

If you win it, you don't complain about it.

AnotherDay_SameShit 9:44 Thu Mar 7
Re: PSG v Man Utd
Yep, but does that still mean it's a pen though? Current rules state it has to be intentional?

He proably did hope it would hit his back or back of his head. Unfortunately for him it hit his outstretched arm but that was a risk he decided to take.

''He jumped, turned his back and spread his arms out. I don't know what people are missing. He tried to gain an advantage, clear and simple''

So because he jumped and turned his back to the ball that makes it a pen 'coz it hit his arm. It is impossible to jump properly without putting your arms out. Maybe he did it in the hope that the ball would hit his back or the back of his head?

Sven Roeder 9:40 Thu Mar 7
Re: PSG v Man Utd
That's why we need guidelines
Does jumping or making a movement to block affect it?
Do you need to stand still?
Are you not even allowed to try and block a shot?
If you are jumping can your arm move in a natural way to do that or do you have to POGO?
